I will soon be discontinuing my newsletter via Constant Contact. With so many venues out here to reach my members I have chosen to focus my efforts on just a few. The Constant Contact subscription is expensive and I need to consolidate in this time of economic decline.

I will continue to post via constant contact newsletter for a few more times but will more than likely discontinue it in May sometime.

The lottery for Coyote Buttes North allows for 10 permits to be awarded per day to those people that walk in to this station. The permits are good for the next day. … This video shows the process that I went through with butterflies in my stomach.. hoping and succeeding at being one of the 10 to get into Coyote Buttes North.

The first day’s goal was simply to get to the Badlands of South Dakota.. easier said than done. The trip would have been about 12 hours of driving at 812 miles but turned out to be much longer due to icy road conditions in Wisconsin all the way through past LaCrosse. Finally the last 500 miles or so were beautifully clear and straight through the long prairies of Minnesota and South Dakota.

The photographic opportunities that presented themselves were just a few but they happened while driving along hwy 90 and I was not able to stop to make pictures.. today that should change! .. I am off to photograph the sunrise (hopefully we have one) in the Badlands and then the drive to Yellowstone.

Lake Superior shoreline, Gooseberry Falls State Park, North Shore MN. The frigid chill is marked by icicles that glitter from the bottoms of the ice sculpted rock. My in camera Multiple Exposure of this scene allowed me to capture a unique look that shows simultaneously water as it came in to the shore and water as it cascaded back out again.

I will simply leave you with some of my recent images from Bosque del Apache, White Sands National Monument and other of  New Mexico’s special places. I was in this magical place for 12 days so I have just been back a handful of days and have not had a lot of time to get as many of my images out as I’d have liked.. but I thought it would be appropriate to at least share a sprinkling of the magic with you on Christmas Day.

White Sands National Monument – Double Exposure..

I met and spent 5 days photographing with one of the finest photographers I have ever met, John Ford. He was certainly more knowledgeable than most other professionals that I have met. He is a wildlife editorial photographer, keeps a pretty low profile, but we connected and he shared valuable time and knowledge with me.

The above image in White Sands was inspired by some of his ideas that were kin to me. And the snow geese blast off image below, as difficult as it is to do, was successful with much fore thought and planning collaborating technique and ideas with John.

Bond Falls Pano

Bond Falls autumn colors. Bond Falls is one of my favorite waterfalls mostly because of its accessiblity. I am able to hike up and along both sides of the numerous cascades, stepping onto rocky ground within the falls itself. This is fun and presents many exciting views that are not possible at many waterfalls that offer a viewer only several vantage points. Bond Falls offers the photographer/ explorer a personal experience.
