If you live near me in Lake Geneva, check out my one day nature photography workshops for a single photographer.
My newest addition to my unconventional workshop approach is the on location traveling workshop. If you (or a small group of friends) have a travel destination you can now contract me to turn some or all of your days into an outdoor photography workshop!
About Me: As Kristen, the teacher of photography, I see myself as more of a teacher of what photography teaches me. When I conduct workshops, I could focus on the technical side of things, but I’d prefer the photographer to focus more on what he or she is experiencing in nature.
Too much focus on what the camera does keeps a client pretty “clinical” in the field. The camera is simply a tool to orchestrate what the artist wishes to translate. The photographer should know the camera like a pianist knows her piano. Only with this

With a working knowledge of the camera, lenses, filters, tripod, etc, a photographer may transform from photographer (grabbing clinical "shots") into an artist. This image, with all of it's colors is not possible without the knowledge it takes to make it. However, you will want to KNOW how to make the image so that you can focus on the experience. The working knowledge is critical but if you can manage that knowledge in the background, you will be able to create art.
knowledge will a photographer transcend being a photographer into being an artist. Most of my clients have some working knowledge of their cameras or we do the tech stuff indoors, where we can focus on just that. The outdoors deserves our attention when we get there … that’s when the feeling and the composing comes in as a personal experience between the artist and nature.
Of course, any technical questions are answered in the field as they arise. I don’t hover over my clients. I photograph with them, telling them what I am doing as I design my images. I encourage them to learn by watching, asking questions, and doing for themselves. I also encourage them to walk away from me to find their own “sweet spots” in nature so that they come away with images that are prizes of their own.
All of this said, I do not conduct large group nature photography workshops. I offer small group and one on one workshops, so that attention is on one or a few individuals and his or her own learning style. I will offer some small group workshops from time to time as well but I encourage clients to design their own idea for a workshop, thus my on location workshops.
