JOURNAL: WI to Badlands … Skirting weatherFeb 2, 2010

The first day of my 8 week, 3 day trip, started with a dusting of snow of about an inch. To Wisconsinites that is normally no issue at all except that this little one inch of snow put ice on the roads and many cars and semis in the ditch.

The long route to the Badlands was a few hours longer due to the weather. I finally out ran it and most of he time throughout the remainder of the trip I was skirting the storms, staying ahead of it by just a day. There were just two exceptions to this… One other time when I drove into a heavy mountain snow storm enroute to Flagstaff from CA and the other time was the last leg home from Kansas City, another long day.. Seems the desert didn’t want me to leave.
I was spit out through a vortex into the West and seemingly crossed back through the vortex to get back to WI.

I stayed the night at a Super 8 near the Badlands the first night, ready for a bath and a good nights sleep before beginning the next day with photography in the Badlands NP.
