The POTD sandhill crane print of the day is an image that I made last week near my parent’s property in Wisconsin. The Sandhill Cranes are a sure sign that spring is here! As I made my way earlier that morning running down an old dead end road I enjoyed the serenade of the cranes.
Soon, as I do every Spring, the “crane man” (as I affectionately call him) drove slowly towards me. The Gentle Santa Claus like gentleman excitedly gave me the lowdown on the crane numbers and pairs so far this spring.. He left me with a little more spring in my step, happy to see others so excited about this bird that I also adore so very much!
This crane is displaying .. time to pick a mate so let’s throw a corn cob into the air! .. The ladies don’t seem to pay much attention though ..

Experience the Oak creek Canyon, Arizona – my second anniversary having survived a 19 degree night in the canyon

Two years ago today I got lost in an Arizona canyon while hiking and photographing. I spent the night in the canyon alone where the temps that night fell to 19 degrees.

I’ll always celebrate this day and the 14th even more, because I survived and came out of the canyon unscathed. I’m ever thankful for God’s Amazing Grace that kept me alive and my will to survive – I was given survival skills as I needed them. What an amazing life I’ve been blessed to have!

More in and around Page : Page Arizona has some spectacular scenes to see right from the road. But hiking will bring you to even more amazing Arizona landscapes! You’ll need a permit to hike into the Wave of Coyote Buttes North. It’s well worth the hike! Be sure to check out Marble Canyon and the Cormorants on Navajo Bridge at Lees Ferry. Don’t miss Horseshoe Bend on your way south out of Page on the way to Marble Canyon and Navajo Bridge! And the Grand Canyon isn’t all that far South and then West of Page .. just take highway 89 South until you hit hwy 64. Go west on highway 64 which takes you to the entrance of the Grand Canyon and through Painted Desert on the way.

There is so much more I could say about things to see in this neck of the world but you will see for yourself! There are many wonderful hotels in the area and they are very reasonably priced.

Snow – Beautiful snow makes for beautiful running on single track Nordic Trails Kettle Moraine

While I live to cross country ski and that’s happening on the John Muir trails Southern Kettle Moraine, I enjoyed a winter wonderland run today on the Nordic trails. The summer and fall gives way to mountain bikers on these trails but winter is a haven for snow shoes and the “odd” runner who loves to glide on virgin snow through the rocky single track.
I thought the 5.25 mile purple loop would be enough today after wrestling with a cold for 7 days … But I didn’t want to stop playing so I tidied the run up with an extra little brown loop of 1.5 miles for dessert.
