Treating and Caring for your Vintage Coach Leather handbag / purse

Nowadays it seems that there are few people who really seem to know how to clean a Coach purse.

There are all kinds of people stating on forums that they use oxyclean right down to a few people that said that they actually put the leather bag into the washing machine – ouch!

Anyway as with most things in our modern world we get away from simplicity and tend to over complicate things … Coach bags came from a simpler time and their care is about as simple as the time of origin. To illustrate this point I have a 1982 copy of “A Few Tips on How to Care for Your Coach Bag”.

First of all Coach bags are made of completely natural leather with no protective coatings on the leather. This makes it particularly susceptible to stains. Here is where people do the asking and ponder the how to’s of getting these stains out. According to Coach and I can back it up from experience, you needn’t do anything.

Time will blend any stains into the leather. The trick is to use the bag, love it, use it, and keep using it!

The bag’s “nakedness” allows it to take on a personality of its own as it’s color darkens and becomes richer over time, developing a beautiful patina! Stains simply burnish into the leather, becoming a part of the beauty of the bag.
If you wish to rid your Coach bag of superficial stains, give it a good soaking and wash it with saddle soap. .. I will leave the rest of the instructions to you to read below, compliments of the 1982 typed copy I have.
