The first day’s goal was simply to get to the Badlands of South Dakota.. easier said than done. The trip would have been about 12 hours of driving at 812 miles but turned out to be much longer due to icy road conditions in Wisconsin all the way through past LaCrosse. Finally the last 500 miles or so were beautifully clear and straight through the long prairies of Minnesota and South Dakota.

The photographic opportunities that presented themselves were just a few but they happened while driving along hwy 90 and I was not able to stop to make pictures.. today that should change! .. I am off to photograph the sunrise (hopefully we have one) in the Badlands and then the drive to Yellowstone.
